Living in Hutto, TX: A Local Realtor's Honest Take
Let's address the hippo in the room. Hutto's mascot is a hippopotamus, and the town takes it very seriously. The city estimates there are somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 concrete hippos around town, sitting in front yards, outside businesses and wearing seasonal outfits. You will not run out of photo ops.
The story goes that in 1915, a circus train stopped in Hutto and a hippo escaped into nearby Cottonwood Creek. The telegraph went out: "Hippo loose in Hutto." The legend stuck, and so did the mascot. Here's what it's like to live here now.

Schools are a big reason buyers look here. Most of Hutto is in Hutto ISD, but some addresses near the city's edges are zoned to neighboring districts. School zones go by address, not by city name.
