Living in Temple, TX: A Local Realtor's Honest Take

Temple is a railroad town at heart. It grew up around the Santa Fe Railway, and trains still roll right past the historic depot downtown. Today it's also a medical town. Baylor Scott & White Health and the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System are the city's two largest employers.

Put that together and you get a city with a lot of history, a lot of jobs and a surprising number of splash pads. Here's what it's actually like to live here.

Temple Neighborhoods and Schools

Temple has older neighborhoods near downtown with established trees and character homes, plus plenty of newer subdivisions. There are also rural properties with acreage in the surrounding area.

Here's the thing that surprises people most about Temple: the city is served by four different school districts. Temple ISD covers much of the city, Belton ISD serves west and southwest Temple, Academy ISD serves the southeast, and Troy ISD serves the northern part. School zones go by address, not by city name, and in Temple that really matters.
