Living in Wimberley, TX: A Local Realtor's Honest Take
Wimberley is the kind of place people visit for a weekend and then start browsing listings on the drive home. It's a small Hill Country town with cypress-lined creeks, a walkable square full of galleries and shops, and a monthly market that's been running since 1964.
Wimberley sits southwest of Austin, between Dripping Springs and San Marcos. Here's what it's actually like to live here.
Wimberley Homes and Schools
Wimberley's homes are spread across the hills and creeks of the Wimberley Valley. You'll find homes close to the square, homes tucked into wooded neighborhoods, properties on acreage, and some places along Cypress Creek and the Blanco River. Neighboring Woodcreek is its own small city, so it's worth knowing which side of the line a home is on.
Wimberley ISD serves the Wimberley area. School zones go by address, not by city name, and some nearby homes may be zoned to a neighboring district. I'll help you check the assigned campuses for any home we look at, and you can compare ratings yourself on TXSchools.gov.
One honest note: because Wimberley sits along creeks and rivers, some properties are in or near a floodplain. Flood maps, elevation and flood insurance quotes are worth checking early.

Wimberley Market Days
Wimberley's signature tradition is Market Days, held the first Saturday of every month from March through December at Lions Field. It started in 1964 on the square with vendors selling from truck tailgates, and the Wimberley Lions Club has run it since 1969. Today it's grown to hundreds of booths. Admission is free, parking is a donation, and the money supports local causes. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a wagon.
